Burbank Commends Sam Solakyan

During a mid-February Burbank City Council Meeting, members of the committee paused to honor and offer a Commendation, to citizen and Global Holdings, CEO, Sam Solakyan.

In 2012 Sam learned that Providence St. Joseph Medical Center was terribly in need of updating the emergency response system in the ER. When he learned that a new technology was available to enhance the communication between police, fire and the ER personnel, Sam wasted no time in making the donation necessary to do this. “In a rapidly growing population like ours, we absolutely must find a way to provide health, safety and peace officers with the most state of the art and up to date equipment necessary to do their job. Recent events and statistics have proven that without state of the art emergency response systems in place, timing rescue of injured victims or responding to potentially dangerous criminal situations take longer therefore endangering lives. If we as citizens can find the resources to provide these, we will be grateful if, God forbid, we find ourselves in a crisis situation. Emergency situations are the great equalizer, they happen to the rich and poor alike regardless of race, color or creed,” stated Solakyan.

Meanwhile, befriending the local hospital who “turns no patient away for lack of insurance or financial resources,” Sam has continued his relationship with the hospital by joining the Foundation Board of Directors. “I wanted to stay closely involved. Once I saw the amazing things they were doing there and how their wise choices were such a huge benefit to our community, I had to. I was very impressed with their stroke and cardiovascular centers, which offer many examples of how every crucial second can make a huge difference in patient outcomes,” recalled, Mr. Solakyan. Accepting his award Sam Solakyan said that, “I grew up in The Valley and my first job opportunity was right here in Burbank. I will always be proud to give back to the community that has given so much to me over the years and continues to be the place I call home for me and my family.”

Saving Lives: One Child At A Time

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

kidnap and rescueWhen Sam Solakyan, CEO of Global Holdings, happened upon an episode of the show “Kidnap and Rescue” on the Discovery Channel, he couldn’t believe what he saw. The program showed a group of people who went on rescue missions to retrieve abducted children who had been kidnapped and sold into slavery.

Sam was both disturbed by the horrific child slavery and amazed by the heroic people who risked their lives to save these poor children. He started researching the search and rescue organization, Project Child Save, and decided to do what he could to help with this great cause.

Sam donated $20,000 to Project Child Save, which resulted in the successful retrieval of 39 kidnapped children. Sam was so thrilled with the news of this accomplishment that he decided to help out even more. Sam donated $100,000 to Project Child Save’s rescue missions and committed himself to join the fight against child pornography and child sex trafficking.

“This is the most heinous, horrible crime I can imagine and I couldn’t put a price tag on how important it is to end this once and for all,” Sam said. “No amount of success in this lifetime is worth it when we live in a world where people sell, rape, torture, exploit and murder children. Can you imagine if it was one of your own?”

The trained operatives at Project Child Save are retired law enforcement agents, veterans, navy seals and retired government agents. They voluntarily risk their lives regularly to save these innocent children without any payment. Their pledge is “If necessary I am prepared to give all of my tomorrows for one child’s today.”

Ethan Perez was nervous about having one of his legs amputated because of a vascular condition so his parents bought him a very special scooter as a reward for after the surgery. Unfortunately, not long after, the family’s home was burglarized and Ethan’s family lost a lot of their electronics, as well as Ethan’s scooter.

The family was devastated with this loss. Not only did they lose thousands of dollars worth of electronics, but they also lost Ethan’s special gift to help him cope the loss of his leg.

After hearing about this tragic story, a generous teacher replaced the scooter. Ethan was so excited to have his scooter back and the family was ready to try to get back to their normal lives, sans electronics.

Then, soon after, they got a phone call from two individuals they’d never met before. Good Samaritan Sam Solakyan and Alex Ghazarian saw the story online and wanted to help out. They told the family to email them a list of what they’d lost in the burglary and what they wanted to replace it with.

After giving the family some time to think about it, Sam and Alex went out and bought every item that was on the list. The family was so amazed at the generosity and kindness these two strangers bestowed upon them in their time of need.

“Amazing. Speechless. Best day of my life,” Ethan said in an interview with a local news station.

Sam and Alex weren’t interested in the publicity or praise they received for this kind act of service. They simply saw an opportunity to help and jumped at the chance.

“I felt terrible about it—about the things he has to go through already and now it’s multiplied by such a tragic incident. I wanted to do whatever little bit I can to help out,” Sam said in an interview.
